Capturing sd footage hc-3 and vegas

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
I'm able to capture hd footage fine, but when I put
in a tape from old camera shot sd, I push the button
to record in vegas, but the camera doesn't start playing.

Do I need to change the setting in the camera to sd output?

I was playing late last night and I didn't have time to try changing
the camera setting.

Thanks!

Never mind.
I changed the setting in the camera and vegas can capture now.
Now I have to figure out why I had dropped frames.
