LCD Screen Hood?

Anyone know of a hood for the A1's LCD screen.

Hi Darren,

Gosh Darren, I've simply made them for my for 4 Sony Cams. Cheap and easy to do, and you can make one as long as is needed.

Some stiff thin cardboard or plastic from a VHS Tape Hard Case, duck tape, flat black paint, and velcro tape.

You can make them fold up, or as I have, lie flat for easy storage.

Can send you pics if interested.

Or a small Hoodman?

Darren Rousar August 11th, 2006 04:44 PM

Thanks guys.
The homemade idea sounds good, as does the Hoodman.
Problem with the Hoodman seems to be that they're all 4x3 rather than widescreen. Seems that way from the site.

I'm looking into a Steadicam Merlin and can't imagine how I'll see the screen when I'm shooting outside.

Hi Darren,

Kind of my point, aside from cheap to make, you can custom make it to your exact size requirements. Height, Width, and Length. The "made for all" tend to be single sized and not always what you need.

Thanks Harold. Good idea.

Another idea I'm thinking about is
http://www.i-glassesstore.com/i-theater.html

Not sure how practical it would be or whether it would even work but I'd love to try.

They are nominally 4:3, but the Hoodman H300 still fits the 16:9 screen of the A1 perfectly (click for picture showing this) (as does the Hoodman H400 fit the Z1's 16:9 screen too.)

BTW: Not a Hoodman rep, just someone who uses them!

Went with the Hoodman 300. :)
Thanks.

Yup, I'll vote for the Hoodman too. Clings on instantly with that Velcro, folds up to slip unnoticed into your shirt pocket.

The 4:3 one works well on the 16:9 top screen of the FX1 / Z1. Only problem is the top screen is so damn good you can view it in direct, harsh sunlight, so my Hoodman is not now used.

tom.
