A new 3-chip JVC HD camcorder?
According to Videoactiv(Google Translated Version) there's a new JVC HD/HD camcorder coming out. Evidently, the codec remains a secret, claiming neither HDV or the AVCHD. Yeah, another format sounds just like what we need, thanks JVC.

It's AVCHD, if it's on a hard drive it has to be AVCHD.
Remember: Tapes=HDV Hard Drives and DVDs=AVCHD and they claim to be 1080p, and if it's 3CCD and the price is low, that means they're more prone to dead pixels and other defects. |

I love these types of secret rumours.

Since JVC have never joined the AVCHD group, don’t expect JVC to have AVCHD as the compression in this camcorder but since HDV does equal tape even though you can buy hard drive attachments for the HD100. The only conclusion is JVC must have indeed developed a new codec as the article indicated.

So, unless they're lying, it doesn't look like AVCHD. |
i saw something like htois, it has a big battery that sticks n back. I think it's the current version. It used a program called mono or somehting to retreave clips and they were in .mod, then you could use this other software called...snippy? clampy? i forget to convert to mpeg, soemhting liek thart. I didn't liek it cause you were stuck in .mod (what ever that is)

check out the "digital industry news" thread
seems like your "hunch" might be the new flavour of the Everio???
but gosh, that might not be 3CCD... or is it? Maybe it will be? |

Simply change the file extension from .mod to .mpg. And then play them in anything that plays mpeg files like QT7 - VLC - MPEGStreamclip etc etc. '.mod' files are simply 'muxed' mpeg files. |
Other sources are confirming the report.
i4u story follows up heise (translated). There's some conflict over whether or not it'll be interlaced or progressive. If this is interlaced, this would be their first all interlaced HD camcorder wouldn't it? Everything else they've released, even their very first HD camcorder was progressive. hmmmmm |
Local store told me it could be by end of the year. He also mentioned Hard drive Panasonics next year, but he was a bit confusing.

It's Area 51, might as well have some controversy.
Wavelet based codec, 2D or 3D, cineform. Any bidders to top that ;). These sorts of codec consume less processing power than H264, and are prone to high quality recording. The complexity might even rival a Mpeg4 solution, then again I am talking in Area 51, and probably don't know what I am talking about. So they are an ideal alternative codec for this camera. There is Vp7/VP8 that slightly edges out H264 for performance with less processing power, or Mpeg4, but I think wavelets are more the go. |
