Is there a way to get rid of the white grid on the HC1?

I am trying out new things with my HC1 I just bought, but I find the grid a little annoying. Is there a way to turn this off?
Also, in the instructions, it says the touch screen has four areas to touch :

Top left - HDV 1080i
Top Right - some little light thing
Middle - the DV tape
Bottom Long - lots of symbols.

On the camera, there are grey areas, but none of the symbols for the TOP right and the MIDDLE show up? IS this purposeful?

David,

Grid?..... Are you talking about the "GUIDEFRAME" option in the STANDARD SET menu? Looks like a tic-tac-toe grid. Page 60 of the manual.

4 areas to touch... There is a "DISPLAY GUIDE" function that will identify icons on the screen when you touch them when you turn DISP GUIDE on from the STANDARD SET menu. This in case you forget what the icon is. Page 19.

Thanks for that. It just shows in the manual that little icons should be showing up on the screen, and they are not (for the 4 areas)...

Thanks for the grid tip!

You're welcome.

As you change different settings to manual, +/-, or other than auto, the icons will show up on the screen in these areas. If you forget what an icon is, you can hit DISP GUIDE and...oh yeah.

What is a good setting for the colour slider?

Jamie Hellmich January 11th, 2007 09:08 PM

Lately I've been using +1. Seems to do well particularly with indoor shooting which is mostly what I've done the past few weeks with the holidays. Christmas stuff came out real well with the reds and all.

Seems that white balance impacts as well, I am becoming a fan of the "one push" setting with a white or warm card. Doesn't take long to adjust for lighting changes with it in the "P Menu".

Also finding playing with adjusting AE-1 or -2 for brighter lit stuff helps too.

I'm somewhat of a rookie as to manual control and true "videography", but trying to learn.

Do you mean +1 over the middle marker? I don't see a numerical tally when using the + - ...

Yes, to the right.
