How important are CP for outdoor shooting?
 

I was curious how many people here own circular polarizers on their camcorders when shooting outdoors? I purchased one for my DSLR camera years ago but never really found myself using it because I felt it changed the images a bit too much for my tastes. Does it work better on camcorders?

I guess it depends what you shoot... I use both a Schneider 4x4 Polarizer and a Tiffen ND Grad for scenic type shots... landscapes, beaches, cityscapes etc...

I find that the latitude of video on the Z1 in not brilliant, and with bright skies, I get much nicer more uniform, dramatic skies with the filters in place....

Afterwards I can go into Magic bullet and add effects too...

I use a Moose CP, it reduces the 'blue' in the pix and warms it up, like also adding an 81A warming filter...versus the standard CP, for the same type of shots and effects as Gareth. Also functions as an ND filter in the right circumstances.

But you can't pan outdoors with a CP on and keep the sky the same degree of 'blue' through the pan, as the angle to the sun changes. Don't wear polarizor sunglasses, they can cancel each other out.
