HVR-HD1000 with WA lens and hood

Here are some pictures of my HD1000 with the Canon WD-43 wide angle converter (from my HV20) and the Canon A1 hood. The WD-43 works great and does full zoom through. Saves me from having to get the Sony WA. The A1 hood fits good as I just put some black tape around the converter to give it a snug fit.

how did you get the hood. Did you have to contact Canon directly?

You can get XH-A1 hoods from Canon Parts Dept. for $17.91 each plus tax and $6 shipping. Part no. D52-0320. 1-800-652-2666 ask for parts dept.

contacted Canon today to try and order the lens hood. When i talked with the lady on the phone she told me that the part number was for a lens cover. Not a hood. Just want to verify that the part number is correct. I could very well have been talking with someone not very bright. Also she said that she found the part, after i described it to her, and that it was the hood assembly. But the price was over $70. Anyways i told her i would call her back later to verify. Anyways any info would be great.

Thanks

Greg, I called and they transfered me to the parts department. Gave them that number and confirmed that it was the 'hood' for an A-1 and she said yes. UPS ground shipping it came to around $25.64. Maybe try this number 732-521-7230, it was the one that was on the credit card description.

well got through to Canon again this morning and everything went much smoother. Gave them the number and surprise surprise its a Canon Hood. Not to sure why the lady i talked with couldnt get it right the other night. Gave the same number.

Anyways just so people know... In Canada the hood is 30ish dollars. Cant remember the exact amount. But thats alright. Look forward to using it on both my HV20 and HD1000u.

That looks really cool, now just paint the WA black and you're done.

Cavision LH-77 hood for VCL-HG0737Y

Alternatively to the Canon hood, Cavision LH-77 hood for VCL-HG0737Y fits on the VCL-HG0737C wide angle lens adapter with a 71 mm vacuum cleaner drive belt as a seal. The LH-77 is designed for an older model of the Sony wide lens the VCL-HG0737Y which was larger with 77mm diameter. The new VCL-HG0737C wide angle lens is smaller, but the Cavision hood will fit with some sort of sealing. So, I used a 71mm vacuum cleaner drive belt. It fits absolutely perfectly and looks as if it was made for the wide angle lens. Maybe I'll post a picture later.

Do you use a step-down/up adapter ring with this lens? As the HD1000 takes 37mm accessories I hadn't thought about adding something made for a 43mm connection. It does look very nice, and tempts me to try doing this with my own camera.
