recomendations for microphone for outside use

New to filming started about a week ago, using Sony Hd 1000.
I get unwanted background noice with microphone supplied with camera, its fairly obvious that I need something better. the problem is I could look at technical details of microphones , but as I am so new to film I have VERY limited knowledge, basically I have not got a clue.
I would be using it on camera, filming landscape, £100 to £200 price range.
Terry.

Rode NTG1 and 2 are in your price range and are pretty much what most people upgrade to. The best flexible option is the sennheiser range but they are a lot more.

The difference between them is that the NTG1 is phantom power only but the 2 will allow use off the camera with a AA battery. The 2 is also longer and they come in packages with windgags and poles> A NTG2 with pole mount and wind gag is around £200.

A low cost, flexible option is an Azden SGM-2X. It has two interchangeable barrels, and can be used as an omni or as a supercardioid (essentially, 2 mics in one).

Microphone

I filmed a birthday party for a costumer and 3 weeks later I was notified of the incredible sound reproduced by the microphone. The customer said that while watching the DVD of the party in a stereo TV with external speaker the sound and voices seemed to pop out of the different places of the room just as if they were right there. I immediately took a copy of the DVD and in my humble stereo non-surround component could hear exactly what the person told me, something I never experienced before, the sound was 'quadraphonic' a there was an eerie presence of the music voices, laughter, steps, etc. it sounded just as it would be from a sorround system.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
