How to reset timecode?
 

Is it possible to reset timecode in sony hd1000? if i shoot 10min and then want to reset the timecode, is it possible?

No manual TC reset. It resets with each new tape insertion, or if you were to leave a gap between the end of recording and new recording on the same tape. Otherwise it's always just continuous from the previous shot.

But why would you need a manual reset on the same tape? Wouldn't that mean that you'd have duplicate TC on different parts of the tape, thus screwing up your NLE beyond repair?

You don't mean DATE/TIME settings, do you? That's different. Or FREE RUN, which requires a MUCH higher-end cam than this one...

I'm probably not understanding something.

I make a news production.. so i use the same casette many times in same week.. so i need to reset the timecode to 00:00:00 because i need to give the timecode people who are writing the script.. i can't give code like, "it's starts from 00:05:44", i need to get it 00:00:00 and i don't want to reel the tape every time.

I guess I'm not understanding fully, but that sounds like a very bad idea. It sounds like you would have the same timecode number many different places on the tape if you are resetting after every 10 minutes of tape. If you reset exactly every 10 minutes of tape you'd have a timecode of 00;05;00;00 at 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 and 55 minutes on the physical tape.

Every day's shoot should be on a new tape anyway. Tape is cheap. Every time you load a new tape it starts at 00;00;00;00.

Only you know what workflow is best for you. But I thought saying "it's starts from 00:05:44" is exactly how you're supposed to do it. My understanding from back in the days of analog tape until today is that you should always have one continuous stripe of unbroken TC from the beginning to the end of each tape.

But again, I may not be understanding you fully. At any rate, the point is moot in the HD1000 unless after each shot you switch to VCR mode, scroll the tape forward until the timecode ends and reads --;--;--;--, and then begin shooting again. But what a nightmare that will be for capture.

Where I *can* see TC RESET as being useful is in a multi-cam situation, where you could sync four Z1s together via remote so they'd all have the same TC when shooting a live production, but then you'd need to keep rolling and never stop any of the cams unless you used FREE RUN TC. This procedure is described really well by Chris on this very website (http://www.hdvinfo.net/articles/sonyhdrfx1/freerun.php). But again, the HD1000 is a whole different class of cam.
