Output of 25p from the V1P

I am writing with a question about the output of the progressive signal from my V1P.

I am going to buy a monitor whose lowest frame rate is 50Hz - does this mean that the 25p signal from my V1P will not display as progressive?

Or will it be ok?

Also, the monitor only has HDMI 1.1b inputs, so will it be able to display the progressive signal successfully without 1.3?

The monitor in question is the BenQ FP241W.

Thanks,

-- John.

John, I don't know about HDMI, but you shouldn't worry about the refresh rate of your monitor. No LCD / plasma has a refresh rate of 25 or even 30 Hz. Some of them are compatible with video fps in that they can use a multiple of 25 or 30, some can't even do that... All 1920x1200 monitors are compatible with the 1080/50(60)i signal, and this is what matters. The newest are also compatible with 1080p. But, a monitor/plasma with as low as 25 Hz refresh rate would flicker heavily. If your monitor is really 50 Hz, and you're in PAL land - great, as 50 is a multiple of 25; all is OK. However, I suspect that like most PC monitors, yours is also 60 Hz (not 50 Hz) - this indeed may cause some jerkiness when playing PAL material (it's OK for 30p or 60i). My Fujitsu Siemens P24-1W (sounds similar to your model name, perhaps they are the same?) is 60 Hz only, and I can still watch both 50i and 25p material from my V1E without problems.

The new Kuro line of Pioneer plasmas go one step further. In anticipation of the BD/HD DVD main format, they have a special 24p mode, where the refresh rate is 3x24=72Hz - this is ideal, as it doesn't flicker yet is synchronized with the fps.

Thanks for your info! About the plasmas too! I've been holding off on getting a Bravia for that reason - everyone told me that there's no way the current ones can display 24p properly because the refresh rate doesn't do a multiple of 24. Now I understand what they meant!
