HVR-V1 Tapeless with HVR-DR60?

I'm a newbie at this. As a 7th grade English teacher, I've been making video movies with the kids for a number of years (mock commercials, video poems, etc), but have recently stepped things up to make broadcast quality stuff.

I received a grant and purchased these two pieces of equipment. But I can't figure out how to get the two pieces to work together when there's no tape in the V1. They work great together if I have a tape in the V1 -- but it's driving me nuts that as soon as I take out the tape, they don't synchronize anymore.

Yeah, I could just leave a tape in the V1 or use the record button on the DR60. Yes, I have tried Camlink Select (follow and Synchro) on the DR60 as well as External Record Control options on the V1.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

May Help

have FS-4HD hard drive recorder. I usually record camera firewire out with the tape running. I finally figured out how record on the FS-4HD without a tape in the camera. I tried it with a Sony V1 and a Canon HV20. It works with both. This is what you do.

Hook up the FS-4HD with firewire to the camera. "Put tape in will be blinking". Now if just press the camera record button nothing will happen in the FS-4HD. But press the FS-4HD record booton once, the FS-4HD display will start blinking. Press FS-4HD record botton once more and the FS-4HD will start recording without the tape in the camera.

Even though the Sony HVRDR60 and the Focus Enhancements FS-4HD hard disk recorders are very different, in this case they are the same.

I believe it's a function of the camera itself, it will not detect the hard disk recorder unless there is a tape in the camera. I had this issue also on my Sony DU1 with all my Sony cameras.

Tom, you don't have any other choice than to hit the record button on the DR60 if you don't want to record onto a tape as well.

I use my DR60 and V1U tapeless most of the time. You just have to change one setting on the DR60.

In the MENU go to CAMLINK SEL and put it in SYNCHRO

The DR60 will then respond to the REC button on the V1U without a tape being loaded.

Now if Sony would offer a firmware update to get rid of the flashing tape icon. ARG!
