Don't know what you mean by 'zoom settings', but then I don't have an FX7. So what makes you think it's only a 10x zoom? Easy to check - film a brick wall in full telephoto, with one brick filling the frame. Zoom to max wide and you should be able to count about 20 bricks.

I think you're looking for the digital zoom - I don't remember where it is exactly, but as is typical with Sony cameras, it's in the menus somewhere, you can turn the digital zoom on and off.

Some people prefer not to use any digital zoom at all, thus it's not on automatically, and can be turned off. I myself prefer it "on", and Sony provides a line to let you know where you transition from optical to digital.

I'm only guessing, but...

If this is a wide angle issue - the V1 and FX7 aren't very "wide", which is not ideal for filming in tight spaces like inside a house.

At maximum wide angle, the FX7 is about 34mm - compare with the Z5 or others, and they go much wider. You need a wide angle convertor if this is a problem.
