how much for the new sonys

I saw somewhere the V1 is going to be $4,800. 380,000 yen etc.

Almost $5,000 seems pretty high but I guess the Z1 was that when it came out. I was thinking closer to the FX1 price. $3,000 to $3,500.

Wes Vasher September 8th, 2006 12:21 PM

I think that's the price point of the FX7 but I could be wrong.

Has the camera even been announced officially yet in the US? All the stuff I've seen so far comes from IBC and pertains to the PAL versions. Sony's US professional site doesn't list the V1 in the HDV lineup:

I think you'll just need to be patient for a US announcement, because nobody is going to know how much a non-existent product will sell for :-)

Bob Zimmerman September 8th, 2006 06:18 PM

true. I think I saw something over at Camcorderinfo or someplace with the $4,800 price tag. Don't you think that would be high if it was the price?

I'm saying 3,000 to 3,500.

the FX7 price is $3500, so the V1 is at least $500 and more likely $1k higher

I'd say MSRP of V1 in USA will come in about US$4700-4800, and that may translate into a street-price (maybe not immediately) of around US$4200 for V1 and about US$2900-3000 for FX7.

All just my opinion.

Boyd Ostroff September 13th, 2006 02:29 PM

No US versions of these cameras have been announced yet, and everyone is still speculating on what features they might have (24p? PAL/NTSC switchable? etc...). So you're trying to guess the price of a product with unknown specs which doesn't even exist yet.

But aside from that, B&H is currently selling the Z1 for $4,500. In their IBC announcement Sony called the Z1 their "flagship HDV camera" and said they were not replacing it (of course that could be different in the US for all we know). Anyway, to me it doesn't seem like they would offer two professional camcorders that were only $300 apart in street price.

So I think we'll just have to wait until whenever Sony decides to tell us what they have in mind...

Boyd:

FX7 has been announced with MSRP of $3,799.

That's interesting, I hadn't seen that site before. B&H comes up blank when I search for FX7.

On the V1, I do agree that it is not yet announced in USA etc, but my opinion is that the specs won't be too far from the Euro version and i think my estimates (and I admit they are just speculative estimates for sure) won't be too far from the mark.

Douglas Spotted Eagle September 13th, 2006 05:26 PM

While it's easily assumeable that the Euro version will have similar specs to any US version, it should also be pointed out that the spec might change as the cam enters production. This happened with the Z1 after initial announcement.
Even though there is footage from the Euro model now floating around the web, bear in mind that it's from a pre-production camera, shot in less than normal circumstances. Not defending the footage, just that footage acquired on a tradeshow floor is effectively meaningless.
I'll make you one promise...the first footage available from the camcorder in "normal" shooting conditions will be found here on DVInfo.net.

Looking forward to it !

its exciting times with all these new Sony and Canon HDV and AVCHD machines coming out before end of 2006. I think there's 7 new HDV/AVCHD machines due out, and i'm sure Panasonic will join the party inj some respect within the first few months of 2007.

Prices as quoted from IBC for PAL models in Europe:

FX7 3000 Euros
V1 4600 Euros

Just bear in mind that in general the camcorder gear in Europe is more expensive than in USA.
