Including some info about the CMOS sensor that sounds very interesting (which I didn't know, so sorry if it has already been discussed here).

Notice the criticism of the LCD going back to side of camera. I think I like it better there. With FX1, to access menu panel under you have to be above the camera to read it decently. With that menu panel at side of camera, camera can be mounted high on a tripod, but buttons will be accessable still. Also, when I have shotgun mic mounted on FX1, it is difficult to open or close the LCD panel. I am glad they went back to the way my VX2000 is.

I certainly would not call that a review; it's a narrative description of the camera specs and features, plus some opinion on the design and a bit of analysis of what you might do with one. I get the feeling that the author hasn't seen the actual camera.... I'll bet many of our forum members could have written that based on what they've read here and seen on Sony's site. Now I have no issue with what he says, it all seems accurate.

It's well written, but I'm surprised the author never even mentions the quality of the footage it can capture, leading me to believe he hasn't seen any. Personally I'd call it an "interesting article about the V1," but not a "good V1 review."

Review is full of factual inaccuracies and appears to be based almost solely on Sony's press releases.

I'd agree that the writer of that piece likely didn't actually see the camcorder. That happens *so* often these days. This is one reason I don't allow magazines to print stories I've written using images from manufacturers. I think it's important that folks know you've actually tested the unit or software...and if they're reading your words and giving weight to those words, then you *owe* it to those readers to actually go as deep with the tools/devices as you can. Otherwise, it's just useless fluff.

I mainlyposted the link in a hurry because of the info about the CMOS, that most here seem to have skipped! Ie, the way that the pixels are diamond shaped and that the actual capture surface area is the same as a 1/3" CCD (given the amount of discussion/complaints about it being a 1/4" chip).

about that article, I did have a bit of a giggle when i read this :

"and incorporates a sensor that detects drops up to 3 Gs for instant data protection in case of accident"

hopelessly wrong !! The accelerometers measure accleration in 3 axis (3 different directions) so they know when it's under 1G acceleration (whatever orientation the unit is when dropped) and that triggers the HDD head-pull-back off the HDD platter.

If the unit undergoes a 3G acceleration (as author thinks.. having read the blurb and not understood it at all) that's not it dropping in free-fall...
