3-day-old V1U lens hood door won't stay closed, how to take it apart?

I got my V1U on Wednesday. It has been working flawlessly and I decided to keep it and return the XH A1. Last night, I was in a hurry to pack it up and I jammed the front end against the side of my aluminum hard case.

Now the door will completely open, but NOT stay closed. When I try to close it, it will fall back and stay 1/3 opened... :(

I really don't want to return it back to Amazon and get a replacement, just because of the broken hood. It's not really broken, because I can hear some thing rattling inside..

IIRC, there was a thread here about repairing the Sony lens hood door. I believe it also had photos showing the hood taken apart. I can't seem to find it anymore... Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

You have a V1??? I didn't think they were shipping yet. Did you perhaps mean a Z1?

If you did mean the Z1, then this should help:

THANKS!!! That's exactly the instructions I was looking for! :) I'll just have to go buy those mini screwdrivers from Home Depot tomorrow morning...

I got my V1U from Amazon last week. They shipped a few and the next batch is supposed to come in in 3 weeks. My co-worker and I both got ours from Amazon.(his pre-order was placed in September)

Fascinating, you must be one of the first people to get one; congratulations - let us know what you think! But of course we urge people to buy from our sponsors instead: http://www.dvinfo.net/sponsors/

I ordered mine from B&H a few weeks ago. Hopefully it will arrive at my doorstep soon.

When I talked with Sony last week I was told mid-DEC for USA. Now remembering that JVC Japan shipped HD100's to counties at different times AND AT DIFFERENT STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT -- those in the USA who waited the extra month because of stricter USA product "requirements" had near zero HD100 problems. The V1 did become available in Japan in November so units are coming down the production line now. So a dealer could get a few.

I would wait until I heard B&H was shipping in quantity before I concluded that the "final" USA units were shipping. I wouldn't buy anything from Amazon like a V1. Staying with Sponsors is one way of keeping your life from chaos.

Thanks Steve for the info.

I'm waiting patiently for sure. Its not easy I have to admit. I had talked to the folks at B&H a week or so ago and they also said the same thing, December.

I've got a higher profile job coming up the first weekend in December and it would be nice to have the camera by then. If not my trusty VX1000 will earn its pay once again.

I'm in Greensboro too. I would love to see a V1 and maybe shoot an A/B test with my DVX...

V1 in Europe

Hi guys,

anyone has info on Europe delivery date?

Thx

The bigger question. Why did you return you XH-A1 in favor of the V1U? Was it image, controls? What? Rare opportunity to have your hands on both at the same time.

When you get the V1 I'd love to hear how it compares in low-light to the VX1000 and HC3.

I will do that for sure. I'm very curious about that very question myself.

Guys, this thread has strayed pretty far for a discussion of broken lens shades. If you want to discuss the merits of the A1 vs the V1, another thread would be a good place to do it.
