Follow Focus

Can anyone recomend a decent follow focus system that is compatible with the V1U?

Surely it has a continually spinning focus ring, and hence cannot be used with a follow focus system?

Some continuous rings are repeatable (the DVX100 for one) and can be used with a follow-focus system. I have no idea about the V1 though.

The Redrock Microfocus is wonderful on the V1U. (and on the Sony or Canon A1, I might add)

Wait a couple'a weeks before ordering though, they're just about to come out with an upgraded, lower play (zero play??) version, scheduled for the 15th, apparently.

You can keep track of it on their forums @ http://www.redrockmicro.com/forum/

I love my redrock follow focus. and I don't notice any backlash in it.

I'm not ordering my V1 untill the end of the month so it makes sense to wait for the next gen follow focus from redrock. Thanks everyone for the input.

I don't have my V1U yet. I measured the circumference of of the focus ring on the pre-release V1U at the LA DVExpo as 10.25 inches. 10.25 / Pi = 3.258 inches. When I measured the C gear I found that it should fit the V1U.

Does the V1U use the C gear, or did you have to order the D gear?

Does the gear clear underneath the V1U's microphone module?

Does the gear turn freely a full 360 degrees or does the screw fastener hit the V1U's mic module?

Thanks.

Perfectly fine, don't get me wrong - I've pulled some big gigs with mine, including one for theatrical release via a film-out, no problems...

Also, the (minor, and soon to be eliminated as stated) issue isn't backlash, it's play - the wheel can turn a little (around one or two degrees) in the opposite direction to that last turned before the gear engages on the lens. A lot of FF units exhibit this, the better ones do not - as I said, apparently Redrock are issuing an update that will eliminate this, making the microFocus an awesome buy.

I wouldn't have thought (judging by the amount of movement needed by the focus rings of the Z1 and PD-150) that it would need to travel far enough for that to be an issue... Did you find there was a lot more throw on the focus ring of the V1? That would be nice...
