V1U Stereo mic settings

Shooting a short film this weekend just purchased an Audio Technica AT825 Stereo Microphone. What setting should I use on the V1U ?
Which is better for dialogue stereo or mono?
Which format is better 60i, 30p 24p?

I Thought about shooting in 60i & 24p and doing a comparison the film in only 25min long and I am shooting with 3 V1u's

Brian, the choice of 24p, 30p vs 60i depends on many factors, mainly your own (and your planned audience's) taste. As far as recording dialogue, it's always better to use mono, not stereo. I myself am using my Edirol CS-50 stereo shotgun only for ambient sound; in post I'm creating a Dolby Digital 2.0 (sometimes 2.1) sound with dialogs on the central channel only.

Of course, when you're filming a crowd of people chatting at a party for instance, you can treat it as ambience and record in stereo. However, 2 persons talking each from a separate speaker is something very unnatural (unless of course you have the skill needed to mix it into DD 2.0 with most of the dialog in the central channel).

Of course I mean DD3.1, not 2.1:)

My final product will be 5.1 Dolby Digital on DVD

Doesn't change a thing, Brian - still dialogues should firmly seat in the central front channel!

Thanks Piotr for the info and quick response.

Brian, do you mount your AT825 Stereo Microphone in the V1's own mic holder? If so, can you hear the zoom motor noise picked and recorded by it?

The stock mic is low-sensitivity and it doesn't pick any zoom noise. However, I'm using the Edirol CS-50 stereo shotgun (Similar to yours) and - when zooming fully and at mex speed - I can hear some motor noise in the recordings, when played back at loud volume through my Home Theater system (full spectrum, plenty of bass).

Could you please check it for me? Thanks in advance.
