FX1 Dropping Out in HDV ?
 

No, not the 20 frames nightmare - which I have yet to experience - but a mere 2 frame glitch happening about once an hour on both our FX1s. Sound not affected but the picture appears to have momentary double vision with a few digital blocks thrown in for good measure. Not dissimilar to the sort of thing we got used to in Standard DV. I just was not expecting this to happen when in HDV mode. Anyone else had this problem ?

Ive had my fx-1 for about 6 months now and ive never expirienced something like that. I hope i didnt just jynx myself. hah

Are they both running on battery or AC power ? Are the glitches at the same time on both FX1s ?

Where have you identified the problem? On camera LCD? During post? If the latter, check tape in camera (or other deck). If the fault has presented as a couple of frames with pixelation then that's not in camera, it's in the post chain. Describe your workflow.

I'm getting something similar - typically a flurry of red pixels for a couple of frames just once during long clips (up to an hour), which is enough to throw out the sync in a multicam edit. In a recent capture session I had glitches in about one in four clips and had to re-capture. Fortunately the re-captured clips are OK, so the problem is not in the recording.

The problem has only occurred when capturing HDV directly into Premiere Pro CS3. Having previously been capturing HDV using Cineform HD Link for over two years without encountering this sort of glitch, I'm assuming the problem is with PPro. Capturing in OnLOcation seems to be a bit more reliable, so I'll be usibg this more in the future.

Problem is on Capture and is not on the camera footage.

Work flow is: shoot and capture HDV footage from FX1 into Matrox RTX2/Premiere Pro2.

After 20 mins or so of normal capturing we have a 2 frame pixellation glitch followed by a failure to capture appoximately 15 secs of footage. Capturing is continuous and after about 15 secs we have another 2 frame glitch and the whole sequence is then RECAPTURED ! and this time the capture includes the missing 12 sec section....

As I said I have had the glitches on 2 FX1s but I have only checked out the one above so far... Weird or what ?

20 minutes of HDV or DV data is about four gigabytes, which is the file size limit in many operating systems and editing programs. If possible, consider breaking your capture by scene or at least in chunks smaller than 20 minutes.

FX1 and Z1U Dropouts
 

I am experiencing annoying dropouts with FX1/Z1U captures with Adobe Premiere Pro. I am capturing using Firewire / DV widescreen but I am shooting in HDV. The dropouts appear as both an audio spike and 4 annoying green blocks of pixels on 1 frame per minute of tape. This is driving me crazy as I am using the Digital Master tapes. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
