FX1 as VTR
Just wondering whether the FX1's been built to withstand long-term use as a VTR. I know it has the capability to but if I don't have a HDV deck how else can I record and capture on HDV. If I'd shoot on HDV it'll be to have pan/scan options for mastering down to SD resolution and aspect ratio. I already have the Sony DSR-11, I don't want to go out and get another deck!

I have a Z1, but the mechanics should be the same. Have been using as both a camera and deck for over three years with no problem.

In my opinion, the biggest weakness of the FX1 as a deck is the port.....Camera is rugged, but witht the odd angle of the fire wire port, you end up tweaking it a lot, especially using it on table top with a stiff fire wire. Mine gave out, and I have to use my HV20 to capture from--- which by the way, is an excellent way to go instead of buying a deck.... Take care, you might find you like it so much that you will end up using your FX1 as the deck...
