HVR-Z1 Audio Problems

Hi this is my 1st ever post so i'm sorry if it ends up in the wrong place or whatever!

I have recently purchased a second hand HVR Z1. In Very good condition. I am having problems with the audio however. I can't seem to record CH1 -> CH1, CH2 even when i use the onboard software to do it. I have mic select set to XLR, and both lines set to MIC. I have AGC set to linked, and CH Select set to CH1, CH2. I'm also monitoring CH1, CH2. I have the gains set to manual on the back, yet my readings are only showing input from CH1 when it is obviously mapped to CH1, CH2.

I am using a Rode NTG-2 with internal power, so phantom is off.

I'm very confused as even when i select the internal mic i get no input, and the Status check shows line/mic not internal mic when it is actually set in the audio menu.

Anybody got any ideas?

Cheers in Advance

Welcome Edward.

Make sure the "Input 1" switch is set to "On" at the front of the camera (just beyond the XLR inputs). As for the rest, it sounds like everything is set correctly. The most troubling part is the lack of audio from the internal mic. (However, I've heard of problems where the the internal mic did not work, but the camera still functioned perfectly using only external mics.)

Have you tried plugging your mic into "Input 2" (with your channels recording separately of course)? How about a different cable, or microphone?

If nothing else works, it may need a $500 Sony repair like mine did when one channel refused to function anymore. It's possible (from what I've read) that these problems can be caused by the act of plugging in a firewire cable while the camera is powered up. Always power down before attaching or detaching a firewire cable...and I think that advice extends to other firewire devices as well.

Keep us posted.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply!

Yep input one was set to on and i still had the problems. I have also tried the mic in input 2 and i'm still only getting one input on my visual dual rails (this time CHANNEL R). I have sent it back to the supplier who are now giving it to an engineer to look at. I got it second hand, so that may well have been the case with someone proior to me getting it, however the supplier said they will fix it for free :) (sending it to an engineer)

I shall certainly let you all know the results!

Kind Regards
