Wide angle lens

Hi folks,

Could anyone recommend a good wide angle lens for this camera? I'm planning to pre-order the FX1 and a WA is necessariy for my work.
thanks in advance.

Somewhere I read that Sony is coming out with a new high-res wide angle adaptor specifically for this camera. Since people don't have their hands on production model cameras yet I don't see how they could really recommend an existing product.

72?

Thanks for your answer. I thought that a good 72 mm WA would fit. Is not the case?

cheers

I think it will be more of a resolution issue than a thread size issue. That's why Sony said they would be offering a new lens. By way of example, there have been some unhappy buyers of the 37mm Century .5x wide adaptor for the PDX-10. When they complained Century responded that this adaptor was really designed for lower quality single chip consumer cameras where its flaws wouldn't be so noticeable.

Like I said, nobody will know for sure until they have a chance to shoot some tests on a production model camera. But with a 72mm thread size I'll bet this is going to be pretty expensive if you want HD quality.

Isn't the Sony FX1 pretty wide with it's stock 12X lens?

Wide stock lens

I guess so, but I can not find any data about it.
Anyone?

Its stock lens has the same wide-angle field of view as the DVX's, so it's about equivalent to a 32.5mm lens in 35mm still photography.

Sony's .8X custom WA zoom-thru is $550

To me the lens is pretty wide already. Century Optics will have HD-quality WA adapters for it as well, and most likely they'll be priced not all that much higher than their current SD offerings of the same diameter (so I've heard).

There will be a new Sony wideangle conversion lens for the FX. In in theis assessory plan for the FX-1 together with a shoulde pad and a filter set.

price

The main problem with Sony lenses is that they are always more expensive than other alternative brands. After all, Sony do not make the lenses, right?

How much would you estimate wil be the cost of such a lens?

As long as the filter is also Zeiss, as the main lens, it should be worth it. But only up to a point.

At least with regard to their less expensive cameras, I have seen speculation that the use of the Zeiss name is just licensed by Sony. To be more specific, the new HC-1000 has CCD's and optics that appear to exactly match the TRV-950, but the lens is now branded as Zeiss. According to the review at Camcorderinfo, Zeiss refused to confirm that they actually manufactured the lens. I believe this is similar to Panasonic's use of the Leica name.

The Sony lens will be called:

VCL-HG0672 High Grade Wide Angle Lens

It will launch at the same time as the HDR-FX1/HDR-FX1E (50i)/HVR-Z1 (Pro model)

Ricardo Renaldi October 10th, 2004 05:56 PM

50!?

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm lost here:
You mention the model FX1E as 50i. Does it means that the PAL model will work in 50 interlaced when in HD mode instead of 60i?
