Does the component out on the Pro model output before compression?

How does the component RGB outs work in terms of quality?

Excellent question, Laurence, but since the Z1U isn't out yet, nobody seems to know for sure! But you can bet we're all looking at this particular question very closely once the camera starts shipping.

The better question that may help us for now is, does the FX1 do what Laurence asks?

Best argument I saw says no delay on component output points to no compression. But don't worry about it, no PRO will ever use that feature ;)

I'm not sure about this, but from my tests, I do believe the FX1 DOES NOT output before compression even with a component in.

What you see is always with compression.

Now if the "pro" model does that or not, thats a good question.

Alex, what kind of tests did you do, specifically?

And you are testing from a "live" feed, and NOT playback from tape, correct? Playback from tape will always be after compression. It's the lack of processing delay from the component outs in a "live" situation that is the source of this uncompressed speculation.

All camcorders have somewhere in the chain cleaned up (white balanced, gamma corrected..) RGB signal available in a 10 to 16 bit digital version available. If this is being D/A converted you will have the uncompressed RGB components available, and this happen "without"delay. But b.t.w. how has the non delay been verified. Subjectively?

It's been reported that when viewing "live", there is NO delay in the image coming from the component outputs.

Processing by the MPEG chips would result in a 1/2 second delay, or so the argument goes.

There is that lengthy delay when viewing over firewire.
