Ext. Mic for FX1

Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone is using an external mic with the supplied hotshoe adapter?
I would like to get one, but concerned about the mic sticking out too far and getting in the shot. What would you recommend for the FX1?

Cheers
Tim

Shot gun can work

i was looking at this recently and tested at what point the mic comes into shot, this is easy to test yourself with a ruler.

It is surprising but ev en at full wide angle you can fit a reasonably long shotgun, say 12", before it is in shot.

Hi Guys

I've been using an AT897 on a Beyerdynamics shock mount, plugged into a Sign Video XLR Pro....on my FX1. This mic is eleven inches long and even with a Rycote in place it's out of shot...
No problem there.

One point though: I've been using a dual hot shoe bracket that extends the mic out to the right 2 to 3 inches in order to allow the screen to open during use... if you put the mic straight on the hot shoe it won't allow you to open the LCD.

By the way the sound is excellent with this set up...

Regards

Gareth

I have an azden SGM-2X with a beachtek adapter. Mounted on the hot shoe it looks kind of riduculus - as the mic is 14" long. Will use a boom pole instead, or a lav.

BTW: Someone else said this, and I agree - the onboard mics on the SONY FX1 are pretty darn good. I think they might be usable for 'on-the-spot' interviews.

Hi Bill
What results have you had using the Beachtek with this camera ? I also have a Beachtek and I am curious to find out what kind of results one can expect.
Regards
Dennis

I'm using a Beachtek DXA-4 adapter and seem to be getting the same results as I have had with other cameras, though I ave not tested it thoroughly
