Would you return this FX1 to B&H?

So I took the plunge and spent some big bucks.

The package just arrived. The shipping box is in fine condition.

I opened it to find a 1 inch diameter puncture on the side of the FX1 box. Who knows what caused that puncture but based on the good condition of the exterior shipping container, it was obviously packed that way.

I did not open it the FX1 box. What would you do, take the risk and open it to find a part inside possibly damaged or would you just return it and request one that is not punctured be shipped? Even if a part is not physically damaged, the puncture looks as if the box could have been tossed around or suffer some other sort of abuse, and with the sensitive electronics inside, who knows what could be damaged.

I hope I would not be required to pay return shipping if I take the latter option.

I just don't like that after spending so much money to receive a package in that condition or am I worrying too much?

I'd return it. There's probably nothing wrong with it but if there is it'll be hell trying to get a new one. They would want to send it in to be repaired and you'd be sending it back and forth anyway, meanwhile you're out the money and a camera.
Best thing to do is call B&H immediately! After spending that much money I expect a product in perfect condition without any question as to whether it's been damaged or not.

My experience with B&H is that they are an EXCELLENT vendor, and would be more than happy to accomodate you with a replacement as long as you call and ask for a replacement unit right away. Also, don't open the box if you can avoid it.

They are the best high end photo vendor that I know of.

maybe this?

sorry - treat this as a kind of strange thing to do, but who knows -
at least you can check before sending back to B&H.

- go to the airport or similar place and ask (beg?) the guy who is x-raying the luggage to scan (and make x-ray photo of) your package, maybe you will see what's possibly wrong inside.
who knows. at least - you will have picture with some details and use it as a kind of evidence.

just a thought

all the best,

filip

Open it.

If it has a fault, return it to B&H.

They are a very positive force in our community. They will support you
