There is also the "N" for Latin America.
The letter actually DOES matter for purposes of warranty/support. The Sony folks made this pretty clear at Sundance Film Fest.

Hi, Gabor/Shannon/Douglas

Personally, I'm surprised how much over the MRP some of this equipment is in the states, considering the cameras were/are quite a bit cheaper in the US. However I suppose the weakness of the Dollar has a lot to do with the racking up of the price to compensate.

Get 'em cheap while you can is my suggestion. Glad to be of help!Hands across the water for FZ1 owners!!

Regards,
Jonathan

Well, I want to buy my Z1 in the U.S., but I will be mostly shooting in PAL.

What will the drawbacks be for me?

I remember Shannon talking about the image in the monitor looking stretched...

well, the power supply would be for 60 cycle, not 50 to start.
The warranty issue may or not be a concern to you.
The US version DOES come with a French Owner's Manual.

Don't you mean 110v versus 220v?

Well I'm currently using a Chrosziel Mattebox (I believe it's the 411-53 or something like that ;o) with my DVX100AE... however I'm thinking about migrating to HDV - namely the Z1 - despite the relatively low bitrate MPEG2 compression applied... ;)
Nevertheless I thought (or hoped) I could still use my (quite expensive *sigh*) Chrosziel MB - and now I'm reading about the problem with the Z1 "internal" mic and the filter stage of the Chrosziel! :-/
Does anyone know if really the only thing changed for the special new version of the Chrosziel for the FX1/Z1 is the orientation of the filter holder??! If so.. well.. I just had a (very quick) look at my MB and it's build quite modular with screws everywhere.. and perhaps I could disassemble/change it so that I could rotate the filter stage myself 90 degrees to the left or right!
At least I'd try that instead of selling it and having to buy a completely new one... :)
