HDR-FX1 equivalent today?
 

here's a question for you, my friend got his FX1 stolen and his home insurance will cover it but only by replacing it with the equivalent today (on the market), the price has nothing to do with it.

In your opinion what is that equivalent?

The FX1000.

Ok that was simple, so the FX1000 is worth around 3000$, that's what his home insurance will cover for a new camera, now the insurance company dosent care if he gets another model or brand, as long as it's not over 3000$, would you guys recommend another model? or brand?

At that price point, the FX1000 is hard to beat. I don't think you'll find that combination of features and functionality on any other cam in the price range. I think the closest competitor you'll hear about would be the Canon XH-A1, but it's a bit more expensive. Also a bit more than the FX1000 is the tapeless Panny HMC150, raved about by some but loathed by others.

If he can wait a couple of months, the new Sony AX2000 will be about the same price but tapeless (see the NXCAM discussion in the HDV News forum) and will have pro-level XLR inputs, a first for a "consumer" cam in this price range. If your friend liked his FX1 and was happy with how it worked, ergonomically and otherwise, he might want to stay with Sony, as these newer cams are like FX1Plus-es. Plus if he still has any accessories from his FX1 (batteries, power cords), they'll fit on the 1000 and 2000.
