Please, help, noise using ext. mic
 

I have an fx1 with Beachtek xlr adapter and external microphone. Once beachtek is connected to camera there comes some fuzz like noise that I don't seem to be able to get rid of. Anybody knows the fix or had similar experience?

Make sure you're not using Auto Gain on the cam. Fix the mic level at about 3 and turn the BeachTek up.

That's what they told me when I had that problem.

Adam, thank you for your informative reply. I also called Beachtek and they said the same thing as you did, to switch audio input to Manual and reduce to level 3 (since DXA-FX is an amplified adapter). Now I realized how much of a success my Azden mic is (I meant to say it Sucks Ass, not success). I have a few more questions for everybody, I appreciate your patience with me.

1. what is the difference between 16b and 12b audio input levels? and what do you have your camera set to?
2. on my Beachtek DXA-FX adapter Mono/Stereo switch is not corresponding correctly, it works m for stereo and s for mono, is it a mistake or... ???
3. I can't afford a sennheizer mic at this moment ($500 is way too much right now), what is a good alternative price wise vs. quality to my azden mic?

Have you played with the dip switches on the bottom as outlined in the manual?

If you're looking for a new mic, the Rode NTG-2 and AT897 are both popular, low-priced alternatives. But BeachTek says the Rode is low-output and may be hissy with their boxes.

What dip switches do you refer to? (I can't locate the manual for an xlr adapter). There are only Limiter for left and right channels switches, On/Off, and M/S for mono stereo.

Sorry, my mistake.. The dip switches are on the DXA-6, not the FX...
