star filter which one would u recommend>?

I want to spice up my work and want to invest on a star filter except I dont know which one is the best to get a special look. I have looked at the examples but people tell me that they actually act differenly on different environments.

Has any one used any and what are you recommendations>?

also I have to get the 72mm for the Z1 right?
where is a good price to get a good deal for this stuff?

First, your assumption for the 72mm for the Z1 is correct.

I always wonder why folks want to use a filter on a Z1 or Fx1 without a matte Box which supports filters. Screwing on and off can be a nightmare and sometime the need is going to arise when time is going to be against you.

Don't get me wrong, if you are staging your shots, then this will more than likely work for you. My personal view point is ease of use and hence my option for a matte Box into which one can slide filters.

Another option would be to create the effects you need in post.

Just my .02

I have three: hollywood star, 4 point star and a variburst. I rarely use them but have bought them over the years for specific shots. I've always bought Series 9 filters with stepdown rings. That way if you get another camera or lens, you can keep your filters and only replace the cheap stepdown ring. Check Tiffen's web site. They have good photos on star filters. They only work well with small point of lights--candle flames, car headlights, things like that.
