New Z1 video
 

Hey everyone,

At about 11:00 last night, I decided I wanted to make a short video with a couple friends. The three of us got together at about midnight and I decided we'd make a video with no planning whatsoever - completely "run and gun".

I finished editing this afternoon and ended up with this:

This is the first so-called "film" I've made. Any feedback/suggestions/critique/etc. is appreciated.

Without meaning to be rude:

IMHO, this would be far better if you would cut it back to 1'.
After 2', it gets kinda boring and i started thinking "do i really have to wait 6' more?"
Try using aprox the same amount af shots, but shorter, leave in the grungy-moves, cutout static, try to use that twitchy iris as a transitioneffect, lose that mic-on-screen by resizing y'r images, remove the parts with blown-out-whites (cause they really scream "made on dv"), colourcorrect the parts that are very dark.

The viewer, imo, should get a voyeur-feel rather than a filmed-with-a-state-of-the-art-camera-feel.

I like the elevator-idea, but i missed the "pointe" at the end, maybe because i ffw'ed?



There truly is a nice video hidden in your rushes, so my suggestion would be: back to the editdesk.

Thanks for your reply, Frank. People who know the guys in the video tend to like it a bit better, so I guess you've gotta know them, haha.

There was a lot of colour-correcting and whatnot I should've done but I edited this overnight and simply wanted to get it done. Above all else, it was a great learning process for me. I've realized first-hand that the LCD screen doesn't show the full vertical image (as you can tell by my foot in the stair shot) and it might be a good idea to turn the display off when shooting, as the shotgun mic was covered by the timecode on several shots (the mic didn't fit the mount so it kept slipping).

Sorry if we bored you. I played the guy who talks in the vid. We had no plan or anything. We just filmed at 2 in the morning. I improved the whole thing, and we didn't pay any attention to technical wrong-doings, as we were simply just givin'er. And from what turned out from all this, I think Mark made it work.
