Camera's VCR Slow motion.

I just randomly started filming out the window at Auckland's unpredictable weather, close up of rain bouncing of things and generally 'pouring'. I have noted the clarity and relative smothness of the camera's slowmotion in VCR mode (at 1/1000th shutter) but never noticed just how slow it is. It's about 4-5 times slower than, well, reality. It's like 20% normal speed and how it does this with so little frames (50i) while looking so good is beyond me. I would love anyone to share with me how it does this as I would love to apply this in post! It's slower than 50i>50p>24p and better than 50i>25p>20-50% speed. Any tips on slow motion in general would be great, is converting to 50p (or 60p) and conforming to 25/24p the best bet? Is there any easier way of doing it than the many steps this process takes? Any input will be great!
