beach tek for FX1

Where elese do you guys mount this, I won't be able to mount it to the base and the 1/8 line in appears short. I primarly use a mono pod or shoulder support.

Hello,

I used to use (have) a Beachtek DXA-2S.

When mounted on the bottom of the camera the cable is quite long enough to get from the Beachtek to the cameras mic in. The problem that I had was not that the cable coming from the Beachtek going to the FX1's mic input is too short but the cable that comes with certain on-camera mics (particularly the Sony consumer mics) is too short to make it to the Beachtek's inputs when the mics are mounted on the cameras accessory shoe. Even the Sennheiser MKE-300's coiled cable has to stretch a fair amount to reach (I even had to have the cable replaced on one of these mics because of this).

Occasionally I mounted the Beachtek on the top on the camera using one of those tilt and swivel camera accessory mounts from B&H but then you also need an accessory shoe extender otherwise you no longer have an available accessory shoe for mics, lights, etc. This configuration gets heavy and messy however.

The Beachtek does have a tripod mount screw on the bottom of the unit.

I'm curious - why can you not mount it on the bottom of the camera? Don't those shoulder mounts use standard tripod mount screws to attach to the camera (I ask because I am still looking to buy some kind of shoulder mount or support and can never clearly see from the pictures how they mount to the camera).

Regards,

Dale.

The DXA-10 also comes with a belt clip.

My current handheld setup is a shoulder bag with the XLR adapter and wireless box hanging off my back. I initially tried the setup on my belt, but I didn't like the way it kept pulling my pants down.

The nice thing about using the shoulder bag is that it's easy to take off and hang on a tripod. Plus it keeps accessories in easy reach: lens cleaner, extra tape etc.

How long is the cord to plug the beach teck to the camera? I think I might have to go with how Michael W. have his set up.

For the DXA-10 you can use whatever length cable you like. It has 2 sets of output jacks: a mic level stereo mini-jack, and a pair of line level RCA jacks.

Just to clarify, I'm currently using the Studio One XLR-BP 3 which has a hardwired 4 foot cable, but I'm eagerly awaiting the DXA-10 in the mail.

How do you guys like your DXA 10? Should I pick this one up or the DXA FX?

Love the DXA-10, I have it velcro'd to my HiMD/minidisc player, and hung on my shoulder bag, it works great.

The best one for your FX1 depends on you. Do you need phantom power? Do need the line level output on the DXA-10? Is the limiter on the DXA FX important to you?
