Backpack for the Fx1+lenses+batteries
 

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a backpack that can acomodate the following items:

- FX1
- 5 canon fd lenses
- 2 FX1 batteries
- FX1 battery charger
- A couple of cables
- A couple of filters (polarizer, etc)

I don't know if I forgot something. Anyway, I know I'm asking for a lot here but I've seen some lowe at the Bhphotovideo website that look big enough for the job. Any advice?

I was looking around the various pro camera bags for my FX1 and found them to be very expensive. I've no doubt they are very well constructed and perfect for the job but when the money is tight it's a no-no....I then found myself walking around a large department store and chanced upon one of those computer laptop backpacks. It was very well padded with lots of compartments for leads batteries etc.. bingo! The FX1 just about squeezes in, but then again this is no bad thing as at least it won't rattle around in there. Mind you, I suspect my bag is for one of the 15-16inch screen laptops, so I'm sure you can get slightly roomier bags for the 17-19inch ones. It only cost me £25 pounds here in England which is the same as about 36 Euros.
One other point, if you think you need more padding around particular sections of a bag, just get one of those spongy polyurethane (or something!) camping mats which cost next to nothing, cut to measure and apply in bag. There are various ways to do this, some messier then others but I found one of the best is to cut a small slice into the bags inner membrane, just a bit smaller than the peice of foam you want to insert. After you slide the foam in and postion it around a bit, just stitch the membrane back up....
With the money I saved I went down to the pub and had a few drinks hehe!

No, you're right. To be honest what I'm using right now is a regular hand bag with some thick sponge rectangles glued to it's interior. :D It does the trick but for long hours under the hot sun I feel it's time for a backpack. I might as well check out a regular backpack store and see if I can come up with one of these improvised solutions too.

I bought a bag off of ebay...I'm trying to remember the seller and name...it came to around 50 bucks with shipping. It holds my two 30ds with grips, 70-200 IS, about four primes, 17-55IS, 12-24 Tokina, flashes, Sony FX1, Rode Mic, batteries, cards, movie tapes, etc....in a pinch I've even put my new macbook in it. Great bag. Worth searching ebay for. Doesn't scream photo bag...in fact most people think I'm a backpacker walking around and not carrying 10K worth of gear going to a pricy destination wedding shoot. Normally I wouldn't want to carry all together like that, but some of the places I have to go it'd be a pain carrying multiple bags of stuff....it's heavy but nice to have,

It says you'd need to buy optional straps to make it a backpack.

I'm using the Kata HB207. It may look a bit big and heavy, but i found it extremely comfortable to wear, plenty of room and very sturdy protection.
