HDR-fx1e capture error HELP PLEASE!

Hi All.

Im using final cut pro on a new mbp.

I want to capture some HDV fottage converting it to DV.
In my Log and Capture screen im getting an image and when pressing capture now, it starts to capture, but only 5 seconds, then i get this info box.

"Capture encountered a problem reading the data on you source tape. This could be du to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved."

Can some one help me capturing more then 5 seconds. Please.

Make sure the cam is set to output HDV before connecting it to your computer.

If you want to transfer HDV as DV make sure I-Link conversion is set to "on" in the menu before connecting it.

Hope this helps..

I had someone ring me with the exact same problem yesterday. They had the whole project setup as NTSC instead of PAL... yea

Depending on whether you want an the clips as HDV or downconverted DV out of the camera, check your 'Easy Setup' which is accessed from the drop down in the Final Cut Pro menu.

Downconverted DV: DV - PAL Anamorphic (unless you've letterboxed or edge cropped and then just leave it as DV - PAL)

HDV: HDV - 1080i50

If you do have your project setup correctly the other reason you could be getting that error is because your capture settings in your Log and Capture window are wrong, click on that tab and select the below options for your desired project.

Downconverted DV:

Device Control - FireWire Pal
Capture/Input - DV Pal 48 kHz

HDV:

As long as you've got your 'Easy Setup' to HDV -1080i50 then you should be fine.

Hope this solves the problem

Joe

Thanks for your answers.
I compressed and burned it and sendt it to the production house to figure it out.

You are right, the original recordings was in NTSC? The rest in PAL.

Thanks again.
