Japanese FX1: Is it posible to change language to english?

Hi guys.

I just bought an FX1 from Japan.
The only problem I encountered was that surprisingly there's no english at the language selection menu.
Does anyone knows if there's any way to make the camera work in english?
Maybe trough a firmware upgrade or something.. any thoughts on that?
Cheers guys.

Nope. you've got a "J" version, and Sony did this specifically to keep black/grey market sales down. Warranty for a "J" is limited to Japanese owners, etc. Same with the V1U (United States), V1P (Pacific region) etc.

I would either sell it or buy a second (English) Fx1 and learn where everything is and what it means. (I'm always looking for excuses to buy more gear!)

Technically it's more than likely possible, really the only difference is in the software. But practically you have to be an "insider" to be able to do it, e.g. to have all of the service codes and procedures plus the desired software. If Sony did this exactly in order to prevent the change, I assume it will be extremely difficult.

You might be better off learning Japanese. :)

You can probably download english version owners am to learn what the
the various menu positions are, and figure it from there.. Could be quite an adventure...
