semi pro or pro

Are the Z-5 FX-1000 classed as pro or semi pro cams,i thought semi pro but some say they are pro it would be nice if it was clarified.

Z5 = Pro
FX1000 = Consumer or "Prosumer"

FWIW, I am not sure how classifying it as pro or semi-pro relates to what comes out of the camera. But I got to see footage that I shot on the Discovery Channel last night. The program was called "The Detonators". The A cameras were 2 - Pansonic 900s, while the B cameras were, 3 - V1's and 1 - Z1. They certainly used a great deal of V1/Z1 footage in the final production. Does that mean it is a pro camera? I got paid. BTW, if you look for information about the V1, Z1, Z7, Z5, etc. on Sony's web site, you will find it is listed under Sony Pro video.

I have a lot of experience shooting w/ the Z1 & Z7.

Both of those cameras can do 98% of what the Betacams & DVCPro cameras that I've used.

I still see a difference between the large cameras & the smaller ones, but the gap is small & getting smaller.

So I'd say the Z5 is ground leve professional, which bleeds into top of the line prosumer.
FX1000 is prosumer through & through.

Yes, of course you are correct; it doesn't. I was just basing this on what Sony says, based on what division they stick the various cams into.

Thanks for the replies so i guess the Z-1 comes into the pro bracket as well.

Generally speaking, anything with an HVR in the front is from the Pro division; anything with HDR is consumer.

Maybe try another rule of thumb:

Consumer: Anything under 6 pounds
Pro-sumer: Anything from 6 pounds and upward with at least 2 XLR connectors
Professional: Anything from 10 pounds and upward with interchangeable lens and all manual controls, XLR connectors and a choice of battery connections

Professional Camcorder = any camcorder that is used for paid gigs.
Consumer Camcorder = any camcorder used only for pleasure, family and not paid gigs.
