30X Digital zoom extender

Here is an example of where the 30X digital zoom extender can be handy.

FX1000/Z5 digital extender test

I have found this feature handy when one wants to "feel the moment" and get a closer view. I have assigned the digital extender to button number 6.

I am yet to truly test the difference in picture quality but initially it seems not all that bad to me. I guess the best test is viewing on a large Plasma TV which I haven't done yet.

This clip was filmed in SD 16:9.

Back in the "old" days, digital extenders were a complete waste of time and tape. I am still reluctant to use them. But they seem to be able to produce some usefull footage with the new technology.

BTW. Martin, why was every one high 5'ing #7? It seems like the guy who caught the wild pitch did more than the pitcher.

Yeah, the extender is very handy.

Regarding the zoom on the camera I am finding that when doing a quick zoom out the camera is a bit sloppy. Its almost like its missing a speed and its just not a responsive as I would like.

This is really only relevant for filming sport that one would have an issue with it.

I can only assume that the EX range would be better.

My Pana DVC62 spoilt me in this regard.

;-) You can tell Greg's American - in cricket, it's a bowler, not a pitcher..
