HVR-MRC1 & fx 1000
 

I was wondering if any of you are using this combination.

Questions:


how do you attach it to your system?

I reckon its fire wire attached?

Is it holding up to the Job?

Sense it has a Fat 32 drive, I was under the impression fat 32 could only store up to 4 gig byte files. If that is the case how big of a card and how long can it actually go??

Don't know the rest of the answers, but if it is in FAT 32, than you might have a max time per take of . . . ? 20 minutes? In case you plan to film a concert this could indeed be an issue, but under other circumstances?

The MRC comes with a cradle and a bracket to attach to the cold accessory shoe of the cam. It works fine with the FX1000 this way. The FX1000 does not have external record control, so you set the MRC to FOLLOW mode and it checks via FW every half-second or so to see whether the cam is running, and follows suit.

Mounting the unit on the cam this way, especially with a large battery, makes the cam incredibly front-heavy, so will need to compensate with counterbalancing on your tripod. You could order an extra AC adapter (or use the one that came with your FX1000 -- they use the same one) and eliminate the battery weight that way, or use the tiny batt that came with your cam on the MRC and a heavier 970 on the cam.

A 32GB card gives you about 144 minutes, and you can record this way continuously. The MRC splits the files at 4GB break points but you use the Sony software to rejoin the files seamlessly when transferring to your PC.
