XtraFine EVF

My question is. Why the Sony HVR-Z7 have XtraFine EVF and LCD screen and the PMW-EX1 have only XtraFine LCD display?

Peter Jefferson November 15th, 2007 04:09 AM

Probably because it wasn't developed at the time of EX1 production.

Sorry

Sorry, i wouldn't post this question

Alessandro,

This is a valid question! With the EX1 being aimed at a slightly higher pro market, it definitely deserves a better viewfinder. It beats me why Sony didn't adopt the best they have. Interestingly, both EX1 and Z7 have the same rsolution LCD.

I've been wondering whether it's be possible to have Sony service replace the viewfinder on my EX1 with the one that comes with the Z7...

James Huenergardt November 15th, 2007 08:17 PM

It may be a wording thing as the EX1 is made at a different factory than the HDV products are.

The EX1 is made at the Cine Alta plant.

Piotr Wozniacki November 15th, 2007 08:19 PM

No, they're different resolutions - the one on the EX1 is identical to what I have on my V1. I remeber one of the early reviewers complaining about it, as well.

The viewfinders are the same on the EX and Z7. In the brochure PDF sticky at the top of this forum the EX1 the spec states 921,000 effective pixels.

In the info for the Z7 it is stated as 1920x480 which equals 921,600 pixels.

Potaato and potatoe.

Edit: That is essentially the same effective pixel resolution of 1280x720. So both viewfinders are HD 720p quality.

I think it's actually 640x480x3 = 921,600

(I remember reading it somewhere that it was 640x480)

EDIT: the PMW-EX1 brochure says that the built-in LCD Monitor is 640x480x3, and the viewfinder is a color LCD at 1120 (h) x 225 (v) but doesn't list the color pixel count (if it's 1120x225x3, then total pixels are 756,000 in a .54inch form factor)

And this is what I mean - the LCDs are the same, but the VFs differ!
