Cool. Looks like the compact flash recorder will work stand-alone.

There is a cradle that comes with it, according to the brochure. It would be nice if they sold the cf recorder separately from the camera.

The cf unit records in M2T for hdv and dv/avi or dv raw for sd.

The Z7 is close to the perfect camera. My wish: The PMWEX1 1/2" chips in a Z7-style interchangeable-lens body, with a viewfinder jack and mount so you could convert from handycam to shoulder mount as needed. Shoot hdv to tape and sd or proxies to CF and xdcam to express cards all at once. We can dream, right?

For me I would like to see Sony sell the z7 without the flash recorder as an option. Hopefully at a much lower price. Then one option since it has HDMI out, is to mate it with the upcoming Cineform flash recorder which should be much superior and features 10 bit and 4.2.2 compared to hdv with mpeg compression.

I was particularly interested in seeing the crop factors for various size lenses in this brochure:

- 2/3" lens = 2x the focal length;
- 1/2" lens = 1.3x the focal length;
- DSLR Alpha (APS-C, 23.6mm X 15.8mm) = 7x

Anyone know what the equivalency for 35mm SLR lenses to 1/3" 16:9 sensor should be? Based on the crop factor published for 35mm to DSLR Alpha, I'm guessing it should be 10.5x, but my math could be all wrong.

This also, of course, assumes Sony or some 3rd party will eventually sell a 35mm adaptor.

Sony eh, still no RS422 on that new deck.. pushing people to buy the 1500 i guess.

Cant stand firewire control..

That leveling 3D sensor leveling system is a cool idea, I hope it works.

As for the rest of the new features, it looks like Sony has been listening to what people want. There's a little something for everybody.

I'm not sure I understood the A/D converters per pixel stuff, with respect to the Exmor description. Is this chip still going to have the rolling, top-to-bottom signal conversion of today's CMOS chips, or will it be more like a CCD chip where all the pixels are captured at once?

Thanks,
Matt
