SONY HVR S270 E and remote zoom control

I have just bought the above camera in the Uk together with SONY remopte zoom demand unit for the Zeiss lens (LANC) All works except the remote focus rocker switch ....am I doing something stupid or has any one else had this problem? The only instruction in the comprehensive instructions( not) is to switch the camera to manual.

I guess it's a LANC controller? When using these in the past, I've found that switching the camera on with the switch settings correct (auto focus off) makes the LANC controller do the focus. Not sure about the 270... BTW, what's it like - I'm thinking of replacing some 250's with 270's?

OK I will try that thanks.
Most of my reservations about the 270 before buying were sort of confirmed when I got to play with it.
1 The lens isnt wide enough for me ( I had a Canon YJ 12 as standard lens before on my DSR 570) and there is only one wide angle lens available for it, by Fuij(expensive), at the moment apart from the Sony/Zeiss lens coming out in the summer which has only an 8:1 ratio.
2 The LCD panel is a bonus but the colour viewfinder isnt really sharp enough having been used to the tube b+w viewfinder on the 570.
3 Its smaller and lighter and I think battery life will be much better.( perhaps adding a proper lens will make it heavy and front heavy?
4 No colour filter wheel and as far as I can see only one preset for colour balance(decide in menu whether daylight or tungsten) not a major problem as I suppose I can go into auto white balance temporaily
5 Not good enough instructions for included flash card recorder box which sits on the camera side when needed and its menu display is very dim.
I have not been able to use the camera at work properly yet as my second grandson has just arrived, so there may be more issues that turn up.
Overall though its the only HD/DVcam camera around that takes large format tapes, and I wanted to sell my 570 before it became worthless and to go to HD so its the only option for me really, and the flash card recording box makes it sort of future proof.
I will report any problems I find in future.
