ny HVR-Z7 with a lot of grain in the picture
 

I own a hvr-z7 and the picture i get has a lot of grain in it (noise)...
In the dark and the light area's,n anal or ut....

Do i have some wrong settings , or is there a problem with the camera?
Does someone have the same cam and can post some examples ( .m2t) ?(traid from the cam.

You might want to put it on Vimeo, not many people are going to download 100mb files just to look. Anyway, without you clarifying what settings you're shooting with it's going to be hard for anyone to help you. Are you shooting in auto? What is your gain on? The outside shot at the end looked good.

The settings are in manual and in auto.
Shutter speed on 1/50 and gain 0db or -3db
Picture profile OFF.
Is it also normal when you shout in the wide stand , that a square table gets round ? (barrel disortion) see the table at the end.

In auto (in other words if the gain isn't being shown in the v'finder display) then it's allowed to roam. If you had the ND filters in place and a small aperture selected, then of course the gain could go right up to +18dB. Replay the footage with 'display' turned on and check out the gain that was applied on these grainy sections.

The barrel distortion you're seeing is perfectly normal with any cheep-ish 12x zoom. Frame up your 16:9 TV screen surround and see how bendy it looks. I wince when my Z1 has straight lines at the edges of my frame.

I see the gain at the screen. and it says 0db.
Called the dealer, he thinks its not normal(something with the sensors) he will ship the camera to a sony repair center to take a look at it.

The pictures look OK to me and what I would expect from a Z7 I dont think they are too grainy at all.

I find the Z7 pretty noisy. When I first got the camera I was surprised by the amount of noise too, particularly in the shadows, and sent it back. The replacement was just the same. Unfortunately most cameras in this price range suffer from what, for me at least, is excess noise - I shoot at -6db as much as possible as I find the crawling shadows pretty unpleasant at 0db and above. It's an issue that's been conveniently ignored by the manufacturers. I think they'll have to address it soon, particularly now you can shoot images with such rich clean shadows on cameras half the price, such as the Canon 5D MKII.

I really notice it now that I am on P2 with an HPX301 as well, the HDV pictures look very grainy in comparison, I am sure the codec is to blame as the P2 AVC 100 intra pics look very clean even in low light at -3db.

I suppose at the end of the day you pays your money and just have to accept the compromises of whatever camera you use.

Since then I've tweaked the camera settings and run in -6db and have been very pleased with the images.

Here's a shoot I did that I think looks pretty clean even with all the dark areas.
