Where to register my Nex-EA50?

Hi all,

Tried to register my camera at Sony's website, but at the consumer site the Nex-EA50 can't be selected as a product to register. So I created an account on the Sony pro site, but there I can't register anything.
Anyone knows how I can register this fine cam?

Thanks,
Bert.

Sorry for sounding like an idiot.

But what will registering the camera do?

I thought any repairs etc is done by contacting the vendor you purchased it from?

I'm been wondering about this too.

It's stated that the EA50 comes with "Prime Support". Somewhere it said that the forms/registrations would be filled by vendor. But as I ordered mine online I have no idea if it's in effect or not.

By registering consumer products at Sony you quite often get 10 or 20% off on your next order at Sony's web-shop. Great for ordering extra filters, faster battery loaders, bags etc.

And if Sony likes to mimic Panasonic (that offers 3 years warranty on professional products) I would be very happy registering the camera.

With my last purchase, the dealer registered the sale with Sony Europe, then sends you the info (by email) which enables you to register with Prime Support - takes a week or so, but it works OK.

Hmm, maybe I need to call my dealer. But then I'll be up all night again ;)

Similar situation with Sony Australia too.

The model number is not accepted so I sent them an enquiry as to how to register the product with them so they have it on record should there be a warrany repair. Usually here when you buy something you get a registration card which you fill in and send back but along with the disks and documents the closest I got was the terms of the warranty

If I get any joy I'll let you know the procedure

From the Sony.eu website -

¨If you have purchased a Sony product from a Sony Specialist Dealer and your product includes our standard PrimeSupport agreement as part of the purchase price, or you have paid for a PrimeSupport agreement, then you do not need to do anything. Your Sony Specialist Dealer will register you for your PrimeSupport agreement and you will receive an email from us confirming your registration details.¨

4 days after my purchase, I got a mail from Sony - with links enabling me to complete the Prime Support agreement, and next day, a confirmation mail. - I tried posting a copy, but its in Spanish, so thought it would be easier not to!

At least in Europe thats how it works, I guess other parts of the world will be the same.

p.s. I forgot to add that it was also an online purchase....

Just to clarify this. Sony Prime Support dosn't give you any discounts, but it does give you two years professional cover with Sony, who will repair your camera and supply a replacement during repair time during the two year period. If you keep the camera beyond two years, you can purchase continued Prme Support.

I don't think all countries offer this, but it is a really good backup if it's available.

My last Sony purchase was the same, your dealer has to sign you up. I presume it's a way to ensure that Prime Support is only offered through authorised dealers, and not for grey imports etc.

Hi Guys

Sony Australia Pro department have sent me an email saying that there is no need to register as long as you have your proof of purchase.

I got what I thought was a strange e-mail today from the dealer I purchased my camera from. It is the biggest "superstore" in NY city and biggest online dealer here in the USA for pro gear (I am being polite because they sponsor this site). They said they needed my serial number so they could get their "retailers rebate". Someone obviously must have forgotten to log it before they shipped it to me.

I sent the serial number back and also took the opportunity to ask about the registration questions being brought up here. As in, is Sony Prime Support offered in the USA? Will you, the retailer be registering this product for me? Etc. He replied "Thank You.". That was it.

Be aware that the Sony warranty offering differs from country to country (or at least it used to). So what the EU gets my differ from Aus or USA.

My dealer got back to my mail and said that I should have an email from Sony within a few days. So now I wait and see again :)
I got my EA50 from Creative Video - broadcast & professional solutions and they've been super great.

Re: Where to register my Nex-EA50?

Made a call to my dealer who basically said 'Register your camera at Sony yourself, because we don't do it for you'. So I made a call to Sony pro. They told me to mail my address etc to them, together with the serial number of the camera and a scan of the receipt, so they could enable Prime Support. Now awaiting the letter or email from Sony.
