New power zoom?

There's rumors about a new NEX power zoom. 18-105 f4. Could be interresting...

I'm guessing it's the lens back center.

F4 though - again too slow for me - I only use the supplied 18-200mm outside where there is enough light - it's way too slow for much indoor work :(

I agree Pete!

I was at a rehearsal this evening in a new Church and with the stock zoom I was sitting at 15db gain at F3.5 and 21db gain at F4 ... The image wasn't bad at all on the test shots but I'm taking no chances and I'll use the Tamron 17-50 tomorrow on Cam 1 as it's F2.8 constant ...on the 2nd Cam I'll have the 11-16 Tokina also F2.8 thruout. There is a massive difference between F3.5 and F2.8 and the difference zoomed up a bit at F4 even more so!!

I really cannot see any great advantage of 100mm at F4 ...the stock almost gets that at half zoom ...if it was 100mm and F2.8 I could see the point in a power zoom that would be that fast!

I seldom if ever need 200mm so a 17 or 18 to 7o would be great on this camera if it has a constant F2.8!!!

Re: New power zoom?

F4 would only be usable for me during daytime, I actually use my stocklens on the nex-ea50 quite alot, it's only after I enter the venue my samyang primes have to take over, but other then then the slow stocklens gets used the rest of the day.

Re: New power zoom?

I often wished the 18-200 PZ was at least fixed f4. I film mainly live events on stage. f6.3 is quite clearly too slow, but I've been able to get away with it on surprisingly many occasions. 18-105 f4 would be great for the venues where I don't need the full range of the 18-200.

Also a new black version of the 50mm is worth the price not to have the silver one ruining the look of the EA50 ;)
