Lens Adapters

I have a question I have a lens adapter for my 80-200 is doesnt give me aperature control but the lens has it. IF I wanted to TRY a lens that doesnt have aperature control on it with this adapter what would the lens setting be? Would it be closed all the time or wide open all the time or would I have to set it in a camera then move it over?

Re: Lens Adapters

Hi Randy - I've just done a quick test with my EF24-105mm I had it at f2.8 with my metabones and then tried it with a dumb adapter - looked pretty much the same in terms of exposure but obviously no readout for f stop. I then put it back on the metabones and stopped it down to f8. took then lens off, attached it back on the dumb adapter and put it back on the camera - roughly the same exposure as at f8 with the metabones.

Based on this very brief test I would say the aperture on the lens will stay where it was previously.

Re: Lens Adapters

mmm then for just testing a lens for low light performance I can have my friend open up the lens and give it to me to play around with. Nice! thanks. I ordered another adapter but it wont be in before this very dark wedding im going to shoot. Thats where I wanted to test.

Re: Lens Adapters

Randy if you're looking at manual lenses then Samyang/Rokinon are inexpensive and extremely well made - I have the 14mm but I know a lot of guys here use the 85mm.
