First video / impressions / Nikon lenses

Guys,

I just received my VG10. Loving it! I've been using it mostly (actually only) with my Nikon lenses (14-24 2.8 and 50mm 1.4 AF-S). An eBay U$ 35 Nikon G adapter.

Well, what a camera. The body looks to be made of metal; it gets very cold compared with the plastic parts... Probably is made this way to dissipate the heat... So far so good, but I miss some of the advanced settings I use to have over my Canon XH-A1, like the sound and image tweaking options.

The "photo" trigger spoilt some of my shots. When it is gently pressed half the way by mistake, you wont be able to start recording. I'll tamper it with some AL foil or so...

The workflow over the Final Cut 7 is a bit complicated, thru Clip Wrap, etc... And there are some clips where the audio is faded on the fist 1-2 seconds..

The fact is: what an image! The battery (o got the FV100) last about 3 hours, a good advantage over the NEX-5, etc... Finally I'm able to "photograph" on a proper video camera. Compared to the 5D it dows have a lot more noise, but the sleek design and audio, handling, etc.. Makes it an adorable little camera.

Slowly closing the Nikon's 50mm 1.4 "iris" over A mode, surprises the best videographer!

My first video (test):

Thank you!

Really nice test.

Are you sure the gain was 27?

That footage shows little noise to my eye.

There is really no noise at +21dB.

By +27dB there is some, but it is very FINE grained and only shows in even shade mid-level objects. Keep detail high and let shadows go very dark, and it's amazingly hard to see.
