Shooting With the Nex-vg10

Has anyone ever shot a wedding using the VG10? If so, how did it turn out? Is this a good event cam? Can you shoot DV with it?

thanks

Gary

I'm not a wedding shooter, but what do you mean by DV?

The NEX-VG10 is an AVCHD-format based HD recorder, only shoots 1080p30 in a 1080i60 container. There is no option for standard definition, you'd have to downsize the video in the editor of your choice.

I shot my son's wedding with it on July 1. I've only just started to edit the footage, but so far I've been very pleased with it. It was an outdoor wedding, and a windy day with partially overcast skies. Since I couldn't continuously man the camera, I had to either choose fixed setting and hope for the best, or go auto and let the camera adjust. I decided to shoot in auto, and the results have been very good. It adjusted accurately to lighting changes, the footage throughout is very good. You shouldn't have any issues with using it in that type of venue

Re: Shooting With the Nex-vg10

Shot a wedding last Saturday with it.

It was unmanned and tripod mounted, left to run buy itself through the ceremony. It was a 3 camera shoot and it was the "C" camera. Used a 1.4 prime and had the Sony CLM V55 monitor on it to get the focus right. (the camera desperately needs a peaking function added to it's firmware)

As a "run and gun" performer, the VG10 wouldn't be my first choice. (prolly last choice) I like the Sony EX1R for that kind of stuff.

All in all, footage looked great. Room was dim and that prime lens came through pretty bright.

Re: Shooting With the Nex-vg10

Shot a couple of weddings last month with a VG10 as my A Cam. 5 cam shoots. Used the kit lens and a 35mm f1.7 c-mount for the low light stuff. A lot harder work shooting b-roll for the montages than with the XH-A1, but the Brides and Grooms were absolutely blown away by the shallow DoF so it was definitely worth it. Was so pleased with the results myself that I went out and got an additional NEX-5 afterwards.
