Mains power & MEDIA EMPTY

Hi All

Just a little heads-up -- a MEDIA EMPTY operation is not possible unless the cam is connected to mains power via a charger unit and the DK-415. The cam will simply not offer you the option to do it when a battery is attached.

It's obviously advisable to do a MEDIA EMPTY operation on mains power, because it can take more than an hour on the FMU128 and you have to start again from the beginning if the power goes out during the operation, but I think it a real problem that the camera PREVENTS you from doing it on batteries given that it's still not clear that small bits of corrupt memory might be triggering the dreaded 'buffer overflow' problem, and that one might want to completely reformat ones memory on a regular basis to combat this.

We should have the option to take the battery 'risk'!

Can Sony not make a MEDIA EMPTY operation possible with a firmware update?

Cheers

Adam

Adam, Sony needs to put you on the payroll ! Thanks for sharing all your testing and troubleshooting.

Quite a few devices require to be plugged into an AC power source when updating certain features, such as firmware, formatting, and so forth. It's essentially to prevent a battery drain and corrupting the device further and/or rendering it inoperable.

To all > Sony is well aware of this and I'm waiting on reply/ies on this continuing issue. I'll update everyone as soon as I know something.

Hi Marshall

Mains power is not as reliable as a fully-charged battery in much of Africa, even in South Africa. I don't think the Sony developers in reliable Japan thought of this!

I think Sony should really give us the option here!

That's true, but given that there's the NX5E or whatever it is, one can only wonder. It does make sense, though, but it's like the button placement; each and every version things are changed, irregardless of user opinions; baffling.

I just hope all of this gets rectified soon. I'm losing too much sleep. Literally!
