Earth Day, Eco Art and I dropped the AX2000!
 

The local oceanographic society had an Earth Day celebration today. I knew it was going to be a bust when I got there three hours into it and there were still parking spaces in the first row near the building. But I digress.

I wasn't there five minutes when, as one of the workers and I were walking to an interview spot, I stepped off the paver trail onto a dip in the ground I wasn't expecting. I flew one way and the AX2000 flew another. Wasn't hurt, just embarrassed. And aside from the lens shade getting knocked slightly askew, the camera looked fine and nothing was broken. Picked it up and went right into the interview. Worked great all day.

There was a cool exhibit/experiment in the oceanographic society's lagoon. Local eco artists are building living islands made of bamboo, coconuts and other recyclable material to help filter the water and give the fish a place to explore and hide in. If their islands work as expected, they plan to create other living islands on a larger scale along the Indian River Lagoon.

The footage looked just fine so your AX2000 must be pretty well built to take the day to day shocks of shooting on location. It looked like a fun local event (color looked real nice, audio was very clear). So this is the lagoon that is west of Merritt island? did you get a chance to check out Merritt island to?

Yes, the Indian River Lagoon is the one west of Merritt Island. I haven't been to Merritt Island but would love to check it out some day. One of our photographers is from Titusville and he raves about the wildlife refuge - he's gotten a lot of great photos from there.

I had a new wind muff on my microphone for this shoot and it didn't work as well as I had hoped. I ended up having to run the sound through Premiere's highpass filter to deaden the wind noise. That aside, I'm just happy that the camera didn't fail after its about five-foot drop onto very hard ground.
