remove mic holder

if at all possible how do I do that on the AX2K ? it is so exposed so when traveling I guess it would be wise to remove it.

Marc Myers July 15th, 2010 11:23 AM

I agree. I can see the screws but haven't tried it yet. Seem easy to strip.

Ben Moore July 20th, 2010 11:57 AM

I have removed the mic holder and reinstalled it without any issues, just use the correct size screw driver so you don't strip the screws.

How do you get to the screws? I just can't find them....

Junior Pascual July 27th, 2010 04:57 PM

Yeah, where are the screws? I can't find them either.

Marc Myers July 28th, 2010 09:06 AM

Open up the clasp, remove the microphone and look down into the assembly where you'd expect screw to be attached. they are down there just a little hard to see.

Could someone with an NX5U and one of these < EX1, EX1R, or EX3> confirm that the microphone holder screws are equally spaced and the same size/type??

Reason being, I wanted to buy the J-Rod twin-mic adapter.

Thanks, Marc. I previously looked in that area and could not see them. Didn't realize it was so deep & dark in there!

I compared the microphone clamps on my EX1 (not R) to my NX5 and:

1) The hole spacing is NOT the same.
2) The EX1 surface is planar with the bottom of the camera. The NX5 is sloped down at 15-20 degrees.
3) The microphone clips are not the same, even without the hole spacing difference. The EX is more substantial and uses a thumb-screw closure, while the NX is a bit lighter-weight and uses a wire hasp.
4) The screws in the EX are easily removed. I was unable to remove the screws in the NX because I could not turn them and didn't want to risk stripping the heads for the sake of this experiment.

Thanks so much for comparing them for me. Saved me $30

I was unwilling remove the microphone holder for fear I'd strip the screw heads. Today I took my camera to Sony in New Jersey along with four EX1's I needed to have flashed. They took the mic holder off with a smile. Seated the screws back in the base to make sure they didn't disappear.
Thanks Sony!
