lowlight on nx

ive read alot of posts of users setting db at 9 or 12 for lowlight events. i take theyre not using an on camera light at all or is the LL on this cam not that great even with an on cam light?is it even close to the excellant LL on the pd cams?
we would be using mainly for wed/recep. i would think using an led on cam light with it , you would go 6db max on it. input welcome.
thanks

The cam definitely needs light. As for me, I shoot using AGC and have the limiter set to 9db. Anything beyond that is useless and looks like a bunch of green noise. The camera looks great at wide focal lengths but begins to close down the iris when zooming. So to answer your question, yes you'll need a light for a descent picture.

I've reconsidered the gain and now agree that +6db will have to be my max setting. The funny thing is that on my Z1, dropping the shutter speed to 1/30 creates a lot of grain, but gaining up (within reason) creates only negligible grain. On the NX5, the opposite is true, and I've been pretty pleased with the look I've gotten so far when I've shot at 1/30 shutter speed. I think +9db is pushing it a little on this camera.
