Encoding NXCAM SD footage

I shoot alot of town meetings and local events. The final product is usually a DVD and a video file that played off a sever and broadcast thru our local government channel. I've been trying to improve the picture quality of my video files. The DVD's look very sharp and clean. The video files usually an MPEG2 files looks awful.

I've been using adobe media encorder with mixed results.

MPEG2 file 720 x 480 look very sharp but movement is usually accompanied horizontal lines.

MPEG2 file 640 X 480 look very soft and movement is clean.

All footage is shot in SD mode.

Any advise on this would be great!

I must admit I've never shot anything in SD on my NX5 because two clicks on the Edius timeline and it's a two-click real-time convert from 1920 x 1080/50i to 720 x 576, so I say to myself - why shoot in SD?

You say your DVDs look very sharp and clean so is there a need to worry further? And what's this about the MPEG2 files looking awful in WMP? Tell us what NLE and DVD authoring programs you're using, that might help.

tom.

hey Abraham,
Yeah I shoot lots of SD footages using my NXCAM, Usually when I done shooting, I transfer it using iMovie, and iMovie will convert it to .mov files, I am using FCP as my NLE
Usually when I done with editing, I convert it using apple ProRess 422 and burn it with DVD Studio Pro.
And the result is good enough, quite sharp..:)

I'm using Pinnacle Ultimate 14 and Adobe Media Encoder. I did a little research and found that my footage is being play off Scala Video System. I managed to get the required video spec and the video quality is a whole lot better. No picture quality loss in mpeg2 files.

Hi Abraham,
Sorry I little confused, what did you mean by "play off scala video system"?

Basically every file is schedule and played of a computer.
